Historic Day for Nature in Canada

“Canada stepped up on climate pollution early in this government’s mandate. Now, with today’s announcement of more than a Billion dollars for nature, we can finally tackle biodiversity loss. Canada is not immune to losing species and wildlife. This historic announcement and investment is without parallel. We thank the government of Canada for putting us on a path today to protect our incredible natural legacy that we are known for around the world.

Canada is home to 20% of the world’s freshwater, 25% of the global temperate rainforest and 33% of the world’s Boreal Forest and almost a third of the global land-based carbon storage. Forty percent of the hemisphere’s birds nest in the Boreal. We have an immense responsibility to the planet and today these amazing ecosystems received a lifeline with more than a Billion dollar injection.”

Today, we can now say Canada is making headway on our two greatest environmental challenges: carbon pollution and biodiversity loss. A Billion dollars for nature gives species and the ecosystems they live in a future, species like the Woodland Caribou, Grizzly Bears and Blandings Turtles. What’s more, our children will thank us.”
