At our 6th annual Paddle the Rouge, not only did we host the most paddlers ever but we also celebrated another huge milestone in the creation of the Rouge. The TRCA transferred 18.5 km2 to Parks Canada meaning Rouge National Urban Park is 95% complete.

This is a great achievement and represents an amazing natural legacy to all the people who live around the Rouge now and in the future.

The flooding didn’t stop us! In fact, it gave the little ones something to splash in as they marched their way to the temporary and newly built dock off the boardwalk. The future of our planet is looking brighter with this next generation of spunky and delightful paddlers.

On behalf of all of us at Wildlands League, thank you to all who came out to Paddle the Rouge including our more than 80 volunteers. This event would not have been possible without the support of The Cement Association of Canada, Parks Canada, MEC, Tarpin Lumber, and others. Thank you!

We cannot do the work we do in the Rouge and elsewhere without you! Thank you for your commitment, love of nature and support. We will build on this achievement in the Rouge and work to protect other spectacular natural areas in Canada. All towards achieving the goal of protecting 17% of Canada’s lands and freshwaters by 2020.
