Protected Areas are permanently established, publicly owned spaces where no industrial development - such as logging, mining or hydro development - is permitted.

Their size and purpose varies across the province.  Some areas are identified primarily for recreational uses to enhance our quality of life, others to provide important habitat for fish and wildlife that are sensitive to human-caused disturbance.  Together they provide an important part of sustainable use of natural resources, to ensure that our economic demands do not use up all of our natural capital.

Protected Areas are our insurance for a sustainable future.

But how protected are these areas?
