High Conservation Values in EcoRegion 3S
High Conservation Value Forests (HCVFs) are defined by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) as forests of outstanding and critical importance due to their high environmental, biodiversity, social or landscape values. Although primarily designed as a tool to guide FSC certification, the HCVF concept is now being extended to broad-scale conservation planning including the design of representative networks of protected areas and special management areas. This new publication presents information on conservation values using the HCVF concept that should be considered during land use planning, where a range of management prescriptions are considered, including legislated protection.
